This divisive video of a Mum’s interesting Baby keeping technique on Flybe has gone viral on social media.
In another viral TikTok video shared by Lisa Flom, who strapped her baby into a plane seat using strips of hook-and-loop fasteners in what appeared to be duct-tape fashion. Her travel hack received thousands of comments.
Supporters of the technique claimed it was an issue of “keeping her safe from falling or getting up to escape (and potentially taking a spill in the aisles)”. They would be safer in their own seat during turbulence than on a parent’s lap, critics said.
The video, which picked up 941K likes on TikTok and a further 146K likes on Instagram explores the baby’s struggles to get down low and et as it eventually falters and settles for sitting still instead.
But there were doubts raised by critics. One person said the hack would be “wishful thinking” to anyone with a baby who thought it might work, predicting some babies would just take off their own pants and run up and down the plane. There were others who have reported that they think the standard lap belt provided on airlines to be enough, and any more might cause discomfort to the child.
Since then, some noted that a car seat with top-tether harnesses would be more comfortable than inserting young kids into an awkward “child restraint device,” or leaving them essentially unrestrained.
The video is sure to be a joke with social media users commenting that Lisa Flom has posted videos before using sticky tape or Velcro to hold her children in place. However, the mummy blogger, who has 824k followers, has also shared tips on how to stick your child to a ride-on suitcase for stress-free airport transit.
The woman went to elaborate lengths, however – rather than putting him in a playpen or asking another adult to keep an eye on him – she used a strip of tape to stop her baby from sliding off the couch.
