Where to Stay

For a bachelorette party in Charleston, SC, here are some top accommodation options that come highly recommended.

  • French Quarter Inn: Known for its luxurious feel and complimentary amenities, this hotel is a favorite for bridal parties looking for a refined experience.
  • Hotel Bennett: This upscale hotel is known for its elegant ambiance and central location, making it a great group spot. It features a rooftop pool and is near many nightlife spots.
  • The Restoration Charleston: Offers spacious suites and a chic atmosphere, perfect for group stays. It includes perks like wine and cheese receptions and access to a rooftop with city views.
  • The Mills House, Curio Collection by Hilton: Located in the heart of the historic district, this hotel combines Southern charm with modern comforts, ideal for exploring the city during your stay.
  • The Ryder Hotel: A popular choice for its stylish decor and proximity to trendy spots in Charleston, making it great for groups looking for a lively yet laid-back atmosphere.

I would recommend a location near the French Quarter, or down towards King Street in Cannonborough/Elliotborough. This will bring you within easy walking or a short Uber ride of many of the best bars, restaurants, and nightlife in town.

Getting There in Charleston

Charleston, SC, is a well-connected destination with various transportation options, making it easy to reach whether you’re flying in, driving, or arriving by train.

  1. By Air: Charleston International Airport (CHS) is the main gateway for those flying into the city. Located about 12 miles northwest of downtown, the airport is served by major airlines with direct flights from many cities across the United States. Upon arrival, travelers can reach downtown Charleston by taxi, rideshare services like Uber and Lyft, or shuttle services. CHS also offers car rental facilities, providing the flexibility to explore beyond the city.
  2. By Car: For those driving, Charleston is accessible via major highways like I-26, which connects the city to Columbia and further to Asheville, NC. I-95, a major north-south route, runs about 50 miles west of Charleston, providing access from the broader East Coast region. Many visitors use this route if combining Charleston with other destinations like Savannah, GA, or Myrtle Beach, SC. Once in Charleston, downtown is compact, but having a car can be useful for exploring surrounding beaches and attractions.

Transportation

Charleston’s public transit options are limited, making driving, walking, or using rideshare services like Uber or Lyft your primary choice for getting around. While there is a bus system in place, it’s not the most visible or widely used form of transportation within the city, so its frequency can be uncertain.

On the bright side, parking is usually a cinch. There are plenty of street/to-own parking lots. But Charleston itself is a walkable city, so you can walk to most of the places on this list.

Important Information

Note the open container law in place as you plan your bachelorette weekend! No, you cannot drink on the streets or in Santa Monica Beach and its parks (be careful!)

On top of it, Charleston Restaurants fill up fast! Last but not least, it probably best is to make your dining reservation ahead of time.

Plan the Perfect Charleston SC Bachelorette Weekend

Thursday, Gather the Girls for a Charleston Adventure!

Start your Charleston getaway with a road trip or have everyone meet at your vacation rental – the fun kicks off as soon as you arrive!

Since it’s travel day, Thursday is a great time to unwind and take it easy. Enjoy a delicious dinner with drinks, treat yourselves to dessert at one of my all-time favorite ice cream shops, and indulge in a cozy night of self-care back at your stay. It’s the perfect way to ease into an exciting weekend.

Dinner & Drinks: Experience The Rarebit

The Rarebit is a lively and eclectic American eatery located on King Street. Its interior draws inspiration from mid-century modern aesthetics, offering a vibe that feels like stepping into a cozy late ’70s living room.

Weekday Happy Hour runs from 4-7 PM, offering $6 Moscow Mules – a signature favorite, and Greyhounds, which come highly recommended. It’s the perfect spot to kick back and enjoy a drink in style.

Dessert: Treat Yourself to Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream

Just steps away, you’ll find Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, an Ohio-born ice cream shop known for its creamy, yet balanced flavors. With only a few locations across the US, Jeni’s offers a treat you won’t want to miss. My top recommendation? The Salted Peanut Butter with Chocolate Flecks – it’s an absolute standout.

Expect a line that might stretch out the door and down the sidewalk – it’s that popular, and for good reason.

Evening Plans: Explore or Unwind

The evening is yours to shape! Take a stroll along King Street and explore some of the stylish bars and eateries in the area. Or, opt for a cozy night in back at your vacation rental. Think of it as an upgraded sleepover – grab some face masks, a bottle of wine, and a lighthearted movie to enjoy while catching up with your friends.

Friday: Your Ultimate Day of Fun!

After a restful first night, you’ll be ready to dive into a full day of excitement! Today’s plan includes a delicious brunch, a visit to a historic site, some photo-worthy moments, and an unforgettable night out. Prepare yourself for an evening of dancing and celebration!

Brunch: Poogan’s Porch

Poogan’s Porch is an iconic Charleston brunch destination. This delightful Lowcountry restaurant has earned praise from The Travel Channel, Martha Stewart Living, and other noteworthy sources. Located in a beautifully restored house on Queen Street, Poogan’s Porch carries a bit of local history, including a porch-loving dog who became their beloved mascot during renovations.

Be sure to book your brunch reservation online and treat yourself to their incredible biscuits. And did I mention they offer mimosa carafes? Perfect for toasting to a great day ahead!

Historical Tour: Dive Into Charleston’s Rich Past

Founded in 1670, Charleston carries a complex history, serving as a significant location during both the American Revolution and the Civil War. Notably, the Civil War began in April 1861 at Fort Sumter, just off Charleston’s shores.

Take time during your visit to delve into the city’s storied past. A tour of Fort Sumter offers insights into Charleston’s role in the Civil War. As a National Historic Park, you can purchase tickets online for a ferry ride to the site.

Magnolia Plantation, one of the oldest estates in the South, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This popular Charleston attraction features America’s oldest public gardens, which opened to visitors in 1870. Explore the historic home, wander the garden paths, or visit the petting zoo on the grounds. For those looking to gain deeper insights, there is a guided tour available that delves into the plantation’s history, including a candid look at the painful legacy of slavery that shaped life on the estate and throughout the American South.

Lunch: Picnic or Casual Bite

After a hearty breakfast at Poogan’s Porch, you might not be too hungry. But if you find yourself at Magnolia Plantation, the on-site Peacock Café offers sandwiches and light snacks.

Otherwise, wind down with a picnic in one of Charleston’s scenic waterfront parks. Head over to The Battery, where you can relax in White Point Garden, a former Civil War artillery site turned charming promenade with beautiful views. Nearby, Waterfront Park provides another peaceful setting for your picnic, with the famous Pineapple Fountain offering a perfect backdrop for photos.

Speaking of photos, don’t miss Rainbow Row, Charleston’s iconic street of pastel-hued homes – a must for group snapshots, especially for bachelorette parties!

If you have a bit more time, explore the Historic Charleston City Market. Dating back to the 1790s, this market is an excellent spot for souvenir shopping and soaking up the local charm.

Get Ready for a Night Out

Head back to your vacation rental and prepare for an unforgettable evening!

Pre-Dinner Drinks: King Street Bars

Ready to kick off your night? Gather your Bachelorette Party essentials (think bridal sashes, tiaras, and more) and make your way to King Street! It’s the perfect spot to grab a pre-dinner drink and set the tone for your night.

Here are a few great options to consider:

  • Stars Rooftop Bar & Grill: Head up to the rooftop for panoramic views and expertly crafted cocktails.
  • Charleston Beer Works: This spot has a laid-back sports bar vibe, offering Happy Hour specials on Fridays from 4 PM to 7 PM, including $4 local drafts, house liquor, wine, and 25% off small plate appetizers.
  • Republic Garden & Lounge: Unwind in the street-level garden while enjoying their Friday Happy Hour from 4-7 PM, featuring half-off bottles of wine and champagne, $7 featured cocktails, $7 bar snacks, and discounted punch bowls and spritzes.

Dinner: Indaco

Indaco is a rustic Italian restaurant with an elevated charm, offering a refined dining experience that adds a special touch to your night out. When we visited, the bride was surprised with a complimentary glass of prosecco!

The menu showcases a thoughtful selection of inventive cocktails alongside classic pasta and pizza dishes. For those seeking something different, you can choose a three-course family-style tasting menu to elevate your evening further.

Drinks & Dancing: King Street

After dinner, enjoy a night of bar hopping along King Street. With the Friday night buzz, the venues will be lively, but entry typically isn’t a hassle.

Here are a few spots worth visiting:

  • The Cocktail Club: This spacious venue offers both indoor seating and a large outdoor patio with comfortable couches. The bartenders craft a variety of creative cocktails, perfect for starting or ending your night.
  • Prohibition: If dancing is on your agenda, make your way to Prohibition. Every Friday night from 10 PM until close, DJ Elementz transforms the space into a club-like scene. When we visited, the dance floor was packed, but there was still enough room to groove with your group. Arriving just before 10 meant paying a $5 cover charge. If you need a breather, the outdoor patio provides a great spot to relax.

Enjoy your night, stay safe, and be sure to call an Uber back to your vacation rental when the festivities wind down!

Saturday: A Relaxed Day at Folly Beach

Did you have a blast last night? After a lively evening, today is all about unwinding at Folly Beach. Located just a short drive from Charleston, the journey to Folly Beach takes about 20-30 minutes from the French Quarter district, depending on traffic.

Brunch: Lost Dog Cafe

Lost Dog Cafe is a charming and very popular brunch spot in Folly Beach. They don’t accept reservations, so expect a bit of a wait. Alternatively, grab a coffee to go and enjoy a quick bite closer to the shore.

If you decide to dine at Lost Dog Cafe, you’re in for a treat. Their menu features Southern classics like Shrimp and Grits or Biscuits & Sausage Gravy. Whatever you choose, don’t miss out on the Cinnamon Rolls. After devouring our first order, we just had to get another round – they are that irresistible.

Folly Beach

After brunch, head over to Folly Beach. A heads-up: parking can be quite a challenge, as it’s a popular destination and spaces are limited. Be patient and expect to pay around $20 for a parking spot.

For those who prefer to travel light, consider reserving beach chairs and umbrellas ahead of time. The Folly Beach Chair Company offers convenient rental packages, including options specifically designed for Bachelorette Party groups. When you arrive, your setup will be ready and waiting for you!

If you’re looking for a light lunch without leaving the sand, order from the Drop-In Bar & Deli. They offer salads, sandwiches, and soups delivered right to the beach. It’s hard to think of a better way to keep the relaxation going!

Evening in Charleston: Dinner & Ghostly Adventures

After a fun-filled day at the beach, return to Charleston for an evening of dining and entertainment. Here are a few dinner options to consider:

  • Blind Tiger Pub: A laid-back bar and eatery with a spacious outdoor patio. Don’t skip the Parm-Truffle Frites – they’re a must-try!
  • O-Ku Sushi: While we couldn’t get a reservation during our visit, O-Ku is on the list for next time. This intimate Japanese restaurant is known for its top-notch and creative sushi dishes.
  • 82 Queen: Offering a more refined dining experience, 82 Queen is set in a historic home and serves elevated Lowcountry cuisine alongside imaginative cocktails.

Ghost Tour: Ghost City Tours

Charleston’s rich history makes it an ideal location for a spine-tingling ghost tour. You don’t need to believe in spirits to appreciate these tours; they provide a fascinating way to explore downtown Charleston while learning about its storied past and eerie legends.

The Ghosts of Liberty Tour takes you through the French Quarter district, highlighting the effects of both the Revolutionary and Civil Wars on the city. You’ll even visit the graveyard that inspired the modern ghost-hunting craze.

Sunday: Wrap Up the Weekend with Brunch

Brunch: Church and Union Charleston

Finish off the weekend with one last memorable brunch! Book a table at Church and Union, a refined Southern eatery housed in a beautifully repurposed church. Inside, you’ll find high ceilings and stunning stained glass, creating a truly unique atmosphere.
