New Mexico may be famed for deserts and rugged mesas, yet several striking waterfalls break through its dry terrain. This road trip links some of the state’s finest cascades with mountain drives, short trails, and refreshing viewpoints.
Many of these waterfalls sit within reasonable driving distance of one another. That makes it easy to visit several stops over a weekend without spending the entire trip behind the wheel. Between each cascade, scenic byways lead through forested slopes, rocky canyons, and quiet northern communities.

1. Soda Dam

2. Jemez Falls

4. White Rock Falls at Overlook Park
White Rock Overlook Park offers a distant look at a waterfall spilling through the canyon below. The elevated viewpoint makes it easy to admire the surrounding cliffs without taking on a lengthy hike.

5. Nambe Falls
Nambe Falls drops roughly 100 feet within the Nambe Pueblo Recreation Area. Its two-tiered cascade and rocky surroundings make it a worthy final stop on this New Mexico waterfall route.
The falls sit only a quarter mile from the campground, which also provides a convenient overnight base. Two short trails lead to separate viewpoints. One reaches the upper portion of the waterfall, while the other follows the canyon floor to its base.
