1. Oman: A Journey Through Hidden Gems and Diverse Landscapes

Tourism in Oman has gained traction in recent years, yet it remains a destination that many are unfamiliar with or struggle to locate on a map. From sweeping orange sand dunes to pristine beaches with crystal-clear waters, our road trip through this captivating country was a highlight of the year. The adventure continues as I have so much more to share about this remarkable place! Oman offers a safe environment for road trips, where the locals are exceptionally welcoming. In markets, I found the vendors to be surprisingly relaxed, unlike the more aggressive sellers common in other regions. Within just a few hours’ drive, Oman showcases a striking variety of landscapes, from turquoise waters to dramatic gorges, endless deserts, ancient villages, and towering mountain peaks.
For those keen to explore further, don’t miss my detailed Oman Road Trip 7-10 Day Itinerary, which highlights just how extraordinary this country truly is. 2. Sri Lanka: A Journey Through Its Diverse Wonders

Sri Lanka holds a special place in our hearts, as it’s the country where we spent the longest continuous period—nearly two months in early 2017. During this time, we traversed the island, capturing the essence of its beauty for our first-ever campaign. The island offers stunning southern beaches, a bustling modern capital in Colombo, encounters with wild elephants, remarkable historical sites, and a lush, green interior. While tourism has surged in recent years, the tragic terrorist attack in Colombo significantly impacted the industry—though it remains an isolated event. If Sri Lanka hasn’t been on your radar lately, it’s time to reconsider.
My Ultimate Travel Guide breaks down the country by regions, giving you a closer look at what makes Sri Lanka such a captivating destination. Whether you’re wandering through its ancient ruins, exploring its wildlife, or relaxing on the southern shores, Sri Lanka offers experiences that are as varied as they are unforgettable.
3. The Cook Islands: Your Next Tropical Escape

My love for the South Pacific is no secret. From the beaches of Hawaii to the shores of Tahiti and Fiji, we’ve spent plenty of time exploring this region, and every island offers something special. Yet, since our visit to The Cook Islands last year, I haven’t stopped raving about them! These islands have gained attention in recent years, yet they still remain a peaceful, hidden paradise. With far less development than Hawaii, more affordable prices than French Polynesia, and some of the clearest, most mesmerizing blue waters in the world, the Cook Islands are a dream destination. Plus, they’re just a direct flight away from Los Angeles, making them easily accessible.
If you’re dreaming of a tropical getaway next year, this is the place you need to consider. Start planning with my Aitutaki Travel Guide and Rarotonga Travel Guide, and get ready to experience a serene, untouched island escape.

4. Buenos Aires, Argentina: 4 Reasons Why It Should Be Your Next Trip

- Affordable Travel Experience
In recent years, Argentina’s economy has experienced a significant downturn, which means the cost of living is incredibly low, especially for visitors from the U.S. and Europe. During my stay, I found $3 Ubers to get around the city, $6 bottles of wine at upscale restaurants, and dinner for two costing between $15-30. It’s a fantastic opportunity to enjoy a luxurious experience without breaking the bank while also supporting the local community and its recovery. - Diverse Cityscapes
The architecture and ambiance in Buenos Aires vary so much from one neighborhood to the next, that it often feels like you’re traveling through multiple European cities in one trip. Areas like Palermo Soho have a distinctly Brooklyn vibe, with trendy cafes and creative spaces, while other neighborhoods might remind you of Paris or Madrid. It’s the perfect destination for those who love the energy of cosmopolitan living. - Direct Flights Make Travel Easy
Whether you’re flying from Los Angeles, New York, or Miami, Buenos Aires is well-connected by direct flights. If you’re traveling from Europe, you’ll find several convenient routes. This accessibility makes it an ideal destination for those looking to explore a new culture without long, complicated travel plans. - Cheap, Delicious Wine
Argentina is world-famous for its wine, and the prices are unbeatable. You can enjoy a glass of high-quality Malbec for just a few dollars, making it a dream destination for wine lovers. Whether you’re at a cozy bar or dining in style, the country’s affordable wine culture is definitely a highlight.

5. Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay: A Perfect Day Trip or Extended Stay

This historic city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is undeniably one of the most photogenic towns I’ve visited. Known for its cobblestone streets and colonial architecture, Colonia del Sacramento feels like stepping into another era. I took a waterbus from Buenos Aires for a day trip, but if you prefer to linger, the city offers several high-end hotels for a comfortable stay. It’s also an excellent base for exploring Uruguay, offering easy access to other destinations in the country.
For those with a bit more time, Colonia del Sacramento can be a fantastic place to unwind. The charm of the town is amplified by its blend of old-world character and modern conveniences, making it a great stop for both history buffs and those seeking a leisurely getaway.
A little-known fact: Uruguay was the first country in the world to fully legalize marijuana. If this piques your interest, you’ll find a few cafes in Colonia where you can explore this aspect of the local culture.

6. Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia: An Unforgettable Adventure in Borneo

We visited Malaysian Borneo a couple of years ago, and it still ranks as one of our favorite travel experiences. With tropical islands just a short boat ride away from the coast and a rich natural environment full of wildlife like native orangutans and proboscis monkeys, Kota Kinabalu offers a captivating escape into nature. The region’s fascinating history, from headhunting tribes to stories of cannibalism, adds an intriguing cultural layer to the adventure. Meanwhile, the lush, rainforest-lined mountains resemble something straight out of Fern Gully, creating a perfect backdrop for exploration.
Kota Kinabalu itself is a lively city, full of energy and local charm. The real showstopper, however, is Mount Kinabalu. Only two hours away by car, it ranks among the top mountains to summit in Asia. As you ascend, the roadsides are lined with stands selling one of our all-time favorite street foods – BBQ roasted boar, known as Sinalau Bakas. The combination of mountain views and mouthwatering flavors makes the drive an adventure in itself.

With its grand design, it’s often compared to the grandeur of Versailles, making it a must-visit for history and architecture lovers alike.

During our visit, we stayed in an AirBnB in the historic city center at an incredibly affordable price—Seville is a surprisingly budget-friendly destination. We spent most of our time walking through the city, taking in its rich history and culture.
The city’s energy is contagious—wine and beer flow freely, and hopping between tapas bars for each course feels like a local tradition you’re instantly part of. Seville’s charm lies in its simplicity, where each meal is an opportunity to dive deeper into the city’s lively spirit.

12. Dominican Republic: A Beautiful Destination Beyond the Headlines

For years, the Dominican Republic has been one of the most visited islands in the Caribbean. This year, a series of unrelated deaths sparked a sensationalized news story that impacted the country’s tourism industry. However, it’s important to look beyond the headlines and focus on the country’s true beauty. Despite the unfortunate incidents, there have been no major events in recent times, making it the perfect moment to consider the DR once again as a top travel destination.
While most tourists head straight to Punta Cana and stay within the resort areas, there’s so much more to explore. The island is home to dynamic cities filled with culture and history. My personal favorite is Santo Domingo, a historic city founded in the 1500s. Its architecture and feel are reminiscent of Rome, rather than the typical Caribbean vibe. For a deeper dive into what the Dominican Republic has to offer, check out my travel guide here!
13. Moorea, French Polynesia: The Affordable Paradise You Didn’t Know You Needed

14. Marfa, Texas: The Unexpected Art Hub in the Desert

Marfa, Texas, may not be on everyone’s radar, but it’s one of the most fascinating and offbeat destinations in the U.S. Known as an art mecca in the middle of nowhere, this quirky town is home to iconic spots like the Prada Marfa art installation and the Instagram-famous El Cosmico Airstream and Teepee park. It’s not just the installations that draw visitors; Marfa is also home to world-renowned art galleries that put this small West Texas town on the map.

Think five-star hotels, trendy restaurants, specialty coffee shops, and curated fashion boutiques all tucked into a town that seems like it should be straight out of a dream. The city is packed with grand experiences—breathtaking beaches, the majestic Table Mountain, and coastal roads that offer some of the best scenic drives you can imagine. And, yes, there are penguins lounging on the beach, right within the city limits!
In just a few hours, you can drive from the city to explore the Winelands, where the villages look as if they were taken from the pages of a European travel book. Along the way, you’ll find coastal towns that resemble Norway more than Africa. 16. Bermuda: A Quick Escape to Paradise

Have you noticed something different about these photos? It’s been a while since we visited Bermuda, not since 2014 in fact, but lately, the island has been calling me back. I still remember how special it felt to be there. While Bermuda is often overshadowed by more popular Caribbean destinations, it holds its own charm, lying far to the North in the Atlantic Ocean. The best part? If you’re on the East Coast, getting there is a breeze—flights from NYC take less than 2 hours!
We visited on a quick weekend trip for my birthday when we both had office jobs. We left our hotel on Monday morning at 8 AM, caught a flight back to New York, and I was back in the office by noon. If you’re looking for an easy getaway, Bermuda’s pink sand beaches, the blue hole, and hidden grotto pools are perfect for a short but unforgettable trip. We’re hoping to return soon, and I’ll be sure to update this with a full travel guide!
