21 Beautiful Places to Travel with Kids for Family Fun

Finding the perfect place to spend your family vacation can feel overwhelming. With endless options and every destination claiming to be the best, it’s hard to know what truly delivers. So when I come across kid-friendly spots that genuinely stand out, I can’t wait to pass them on. Over the past few years, we’ve explored extensively-48 trips in total and while each one had its own charm, some destinations rose above the rest for families.

Here are the top places that offer fun, learning, and bonding experiences for kids of all ages—without compromising adult enjoyment.

Best Places to Travel With Kids – International

    1. Maldives

    Maldives

Out of all the places we’ve explored as a family, the Maldives stands out as one of the most memorable. Sure, it’s a long haul from the U.S., but the payoff is tremendous. The ocean here feels otherworldly—clear, calm, and full of marine life. Just snorkeling near the shore can feel like a private aquarium tour. And if your kids love water, they’ll be endlessly entertained by paddleboarding, swimming, and dolphin cruises.

What made this trip even more meaningful was the warmth of the locals. Hospitality here doesn’t feel forced—it’s part of daily life. We stayed at Soneva, and every detail felt considered without being overdone. Their kids’ club wasn’t just an afterthought; it was engaging, thoughtful, and made our children feel like the stars of the vacation.

The food? Exceptional. Fresh-caught seafood, fruit you’ll dream about later, and menus that cater to curious little eaters as much as adults. Add in eco-conscious touches and outdoor movie nights under the stars, and you’ve got a family escape that hits all the right notes—without needing constant screen time or structured schedules.

The Maldives delivers more than just a postcard view—it’s a place where slowing down becomes second nature and where every family member finds their happy place.

    2. Prague

    Prague

Prague has a way of sparking kids’ imaginations without even trying. With its old-world skyline of towers, bridges, and cobbled streets, the city feels like stepping into a storybook. Children are often drawn in by the quirky sculptures, lively public squares, and whimsical street performers. Add in sprawling playgrounds, wide open parks, and plenty of sweet treats, and you’ve got a winning combination.

Parents, on the other hand, will appreciate the practicality: efficient public transportation, great family-sized hotel options, affordable food, and yes—the famously good Czech beer. Everything here feels approachable, even if you’re juggling a stroller and a snack-craving toddler.

Some of the musts for families include crossing the Charles Bridge at different times of day (sunrise is peaceful, sunset is electric), trying unusual flavors at Angelato, and joining a local food tour that offers bites the whole family can sample. Older kids will be intrigued by the astronomical clock and the towering St. Vitus Cathedral. Little explorers will love roaming the grounds of Prague Castle, and everyone can catch their breath in the green courtyards scattered around the city.

A stay near St. Nicholas Cathedral is a smart choice for families. You’ll be steps away from major landmarks, with easy access to the tram system and a cozy breakfast spot right in the hotel. It’s peaceful and private, yet perfectly connected to all the things that make a vacation easy.

Prague may surprise you with how easy it is to navigate with kids—and how hard it is to leave once you’ve settled into its rhythm.

If cities like this spark your interest, we’ve also shared more European destinations that make traveling with kids surprisingly easy and fun.

    3. Rome

    Rome
    Rome | unlimitedrome/IG

Yes, Rome shows up on just about every travel list—but there’s a reason for that. Despite the crowds and camera flashes, the city manages to feel genuinely thrilling every time. For families, it offers a bold mix of food, history, and energy that’s hard to match anywhere else. And the best part? Kids love it.

Romans live with a kind of joyful intensity. Their connection to food, tradition, and family spills out into the streets. Whether you’re sampling handmade pasta, wandering among ancient ruins, or sharing gelato near a centuries-old fountain, it never feels forced.

One of our favorite experiences was touring the Colosseum with Overome—interactive, fast-paced, and full of curious facts that even young kids could grasp. And let’s be honest, kids love anything that involves swords, underground chambers, or stories of gladiators. Between excursions, there’s always another café to pop into, another local dish to try. Wine for the grown-ups, fresh-squeezed juices or sparkling water for the kids, and everybody’s happy.

Throw a coin into the Trevi Fountain, make a pit stop at the Spanish Steps, and wander through Piazza Navona where street performers entertain crowds of all ages. But skip the overpriced restaurants in those hotspots—walk a couple of blocks and you’ll find smaller trattorias where the meals are half the price and twice as good.

Rome pulls you in with its layers. One moment you’re marveling at ancient temples; the next, you’re caught in a modern buzz of scooters and sidewalk chatter. It’s a city that teaches kids to appreciate old stories—and teaches adults how to slow down, one espresso at a time.

    4. Cancun

    Cancun
    Cancun | world_walkerz/IG

Before last year, I associated Cancun with college parties and wild spring break scenes. Turns out, I was completely off the mark. Cancun can be a goldmine for family travel—packed with energy, comfort, and endless things to do for all ages. If you’ve dismissed it before, it might be time to take a second look.

We booked a stay at the Hard Rock Hotel, and yes—it lived up to the name. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was electric in all the right ways. The in-room hot tub (centered like it belonged on a concert stage) made our kids feel like VIPs. Room service was lightning fast and consistently good—even at midnight. And the sheer number of kid-focused activities made it hard to get them to leave the hotel.

But when we did venture out, it only got better. Xel-Há, the aquatic park, was one of those rare places that’s actually worth the hype. Think zip lines, water slides, lazy rivers, and snorkeling in water so clear it felt unreal. We also took a short trip to Akumal, where we swam alongside turtles in their natural environment—no artificial tanks or tricks.

On another day, we explored cenotes—natural swimming holes carved into limestone—that gave us a break from the heat and a splash of adventure. And of course, there’s always the beach. White sand, turquoise water, and enough space to just let the day unfold.

Surprisingly, all of this can be done without blowing the budget. From all-inclusive deals to affordable excursions, Cancun offers family fun that doesn’t feel like a splurge—unless you want it to. It’s one destination that managed to flip my expectations completely.

If keeping costs manageable is part of your travel strategy, we’ve gathered several wallet-friendly family vacation ideas that still feel special.

    5. Banff, Canada

Banff might not offer the heat of a tropical getaway, but it more than makes up for it with experiences that leave a lasting impression. Of all our summer trips, this one stands out as something truly special—wild, unexpected, and packed with things to do from sunrise to sundown.

In a single week, we packed in horseback riding along the river, followed by an outdoor cookout that felt like stepping into a different era. We hiked across a glacier so surreal it felt like a movie set. White water rafting brought an adrenaline rush, while caving added just the right touch of mystery to our days. Each activity offered a different side of Banff’s terrain and energy.

For those who prefer to take things slow, this place is still a dream. Lake Louise, with its unreal turquoise water and towering peaks, is unforgettable. The air feels cleaner, the skies seem wider, and wildlife sightings are frequent enough to keep kids wide-eyed (we crossed paths with seven bears—safely, of course).

We stayed at Moose Hotel & Suites, which worked perfectly for our family. The rooms were roomy and comfortable, with a kitchen that made breakfasts easy and convenient. The living area gave us space to unwind after long, active days. Best of all, the hotel’s location meant we could walk just about anywhere we wanted—restaurants, shops, trailheads—all within a few minutes.

Banff doesn’t just offer scenery; it hands you the kind of trip that bonds a family through shared challenges, laughter, and awe. You come for the mountains, but you leave with stories.

    6. Steamboat Springs

    Steamboat Springs

Sometimes the most unforgettable trips are the ones you don’t plan in advance. That was the case with our last-minute winter getaway to Steamboat Springs—and it ended up being the snow trip we still talk about most.

Steamboat has the charm of a ski town without feeling overwhelming or overrun. It’s a place that knows how to welcome families. Our 3-bedroom Wyndham Vacation Rental sat right by the mountain, offering stunning slope views and a cozy fireplace that became our evening hangout spot. The free door-to-door shuttle? Total game-changer with kids in tow. Everything felt easy and accessible.

While it’s well-known for skiing and snowboarding, Steamboat goes far beyond that. We found ourselves cramming in snow tubing, horse-drawn sleigh rides, ice skating, bumper cars on ice, and even dog-sledding. There was always something to do—even when little legs were tired from the slopes.

The dog-sledding tour was the highlight for me. Watching the dogs work as a team, dashing through snowy trails, was something we’ll never forget. For my boys, though, it was the snow itself—fluffy, deep, and perfect for face-first dives. Coming from Southern California, this kind of winter was totally new for them and they were all in.

We happened to be there during the Cowboy Downhill event in January, which was another unexpected bonus. Picture hot air balloons glowing against the evening sky and cowboys flying down ski runs in full rodeo gear. It added a little humor and wild fun to an already packed week.

Steamboat Springs surprised us at every turn. What started as a spontaneous booking quickly turned into a family favorite—part snowy playground, part winter carnival, and fully worth repeating.

    7. Yosemite

    Yosemite
    Yosemite | visitcalifornia/IG

Growing up, Yosemite was part of every summer. We’d pitch tents, cook over campfires, and hike until our legs gave out. But now, with five kids of my own, the idea of camping didn’t exactly scream “vacation.” That changed earlier this year when I took a spontaneous winter trip with my dad and son, Owen. It was a completely different take on Yosemite—and somehow, better than I remembered.

It was my first time seeing Yosemite under a blanket of snow, and the effect was dramatic. Iconic sights like El Capitan and Half Dome looked even more striking, framed by soft white drifts and quiet trails. There were fewer crowds, and everything felt more peaceful—like the park had slowed down just enough for us to catch our breath and take it all in.

We stayed at Tenaya Lodge, and wow—what a shift from my childhood memories of sleeping bags and chilly mornings. The lodge brought comfort to a destination usually known for rugged beauty. Think heated pools, hearty meals, family-friendly activities, and rooms that gave us space to actually relax after a long day outdoors.

One morning, we laced up ice skates for a session at the outdoor rink. Later, we took a guided snowshoe walk through the forest, which gave us a whole new appreciation for the terrain. The kids at home were definitely jealous when we showed them photos of our cozy fireplace and views that looked straight out of a movie.

This trip reminded me that Yosemite isn’t just one thing. It’s not locked into summer hikes or childhood nostalgia. It adapts. And visiting in the winter opened up a side of it I hadn’t appreciated before. Quiet trails, frosted trees, and the kind of calm that lets you really connect—with nature, with family, and with yourself.

We’re already talking about coming back—with the whole crew next time.

    8. East Coast (Washington, D.C. & New York City)

East Coast (Washington, D.C. & New York City)

Taking our kids to Washington, D.C. and New York in the spring turned out to be one of our most engaging and well-rounded family trips. The timing couldn’t have been better—blooming cherry blossoms, comfortable weather, and fewer tourists made both cities easier to explore without the usual summer chaos.

In D.C., the connection between what our kids had learned in school and what they were seeing firsthand made for some pretty proud parenting moments. They pointed out monuments they recognized, recited facts about presidents, and genuinely took interest in everything from the Lincoln Memorial to the Smithsonian exhibits. One of the best parts? We reached out to our state representative ahead of time and booked a tour of the Capitol. It gave us access and insights you just don’t get from the standard visitor line.

Then came New York—colder than we expected but just as exciting. We kicked things off with a Knicks game at Madison Square Garden, which thrilled the boys. Meanwhile, Ella and I caught a Broadway performance of Matilda, and that one play turned her into a theater fan for life.

We made the rounds: the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, Natural History Museum, Central Park, and the deeply moving 9/11 Memorial and Museum. It felt like every day had a new rhythm—sometimes historical, sometimes playful, sometimes reflective.

And let’s talk about the food. We didn’t hold back. Between slices of classic New York pizza and spontaneous bakery stops, we indulged shamelessly. A few highlights: savory Indian dishes from IndiaKitch, dreamy doughnuts from Doughnut Plant, and oversized cookies from Levain Bakery that lived up to every bit of their reputation. We even introduced the kids to Seinfeld culture by taking them to the Original Soupman—yes, the “no soup for you” place—and it became their favorite lunch of the trip.

If you’re planning a family trip to NYC, you’ll find all our dining picks, activity favorites, and handy travel advice in my Ultimate Guide to New York City with Kids. We also loved our stay at the Beacon Hotel — a great choice for families. You can check that out here.

    9. San Diego & La Jolla

    San Diego & La Jolla

Living just a short drive from San Diego means I’ve had the chance to experience this city in every season—and honestly, it never gets old. While many travelers default to Los Angeles, I’ve always believed San Diego offers a more laid-back, family-friendly experience with just as much to do (if not more) for kids.

There’s no shortage of options to keep little ones entertained. From sandy beach days and spotting sea lions in La Jolla to kayaking along the rugged coastline and exploring tide pools, outdoor fun here is practically built in. For families that like to stay active, a beachside hike followed by tacos on the boardwalk hits the spot every time.

One of our go-to traditions is catching a Padres game at Petco Park. The stadium sits right in downtown and offers incredible city views—plus, it’s casual and easy-going, even with young kids in tow. On other days, we hop on the ferry to Coronado Island, a short ride that always feels like a mini escape. Once there, we stroll through small shops, grab ice cream, and unwind on wide beaches near the historic Hotel Del Coronado.

When we want to turn a day trip into a staycation, Loews Coronado Bay Resort has been our top pick. The layout works great for families, and it offers a mix of comfort and space that makes it easy to recharge after a full day out.

San Diego hits that rare balance of energy and ease—it’s got enough going on to fill your itinerary, without ever feeling overwhelming. For families who want sunshine, sea air, and something new every day, this coastal city is hard to beat.

    10. Disney World & Universal Studios – Orlando, Florida

Amusement parks are a tried-and-true option for family travel, and Orlando sets the gold standard. This city has been part of our family’s story from the beginning—quite literally. Liv was born in Miami, and during her adoption process, we had to stay in Florida for a couple of weeks. We spent those early days at Disney’s Beach Club Resort, and ever since, Orlando has felt like an extension of home.

There’s a reason families return here again and again. Both Disney World and Universal Studios are built to keep things running smoothly for parents and magical for kids. From the seamless shuttle systems and stroller-friendly walkways to the restaurant options that work for picky eaters and adventurous foodies alike, everything is thoughtfully laid out to simplify your stay.

Each visit brings something new. One day you’re flying alongside Harry Potter in a simulated broomstick ride; the next, you’re watching fireworks light up Cinderella’s castle. There’s constant excitement, but it somehow doesn’t feel exhausting. And for families traveling with kids of different ages, these parks do a great job of balancing thrill rides with gentler experiences.

What makes Orlando stand out, though, is how much there is to explore beyond the parks. If you extend your stay, you’ll find wildlife reserves, airboat tours, and interactive science museums just a short drive away. It’s a city that knows how to entertain families in more ways than one.

If you’re staying with Disney, the Beach Club is a favorite for its relaxed feel and prime location—close enough to walk into Epcot. For Universal, Loews Portofino Bay Hotel adds a bit of luxury while keeping things kid-friendly and convenient.

Orlando doesn’t just hand you a vacation—it gives you a backdrop to make memories that your kids will bring up for years to come.

    11. Hawaii

    Hawaii

Hawaii easily earns its place as one of the all-time best family travel spots. The islands offer something for every age group—from toddlers who just want to dig in the sand to teens looking for a little adrenaline. Add in consistently great weather and relaxed island vibes, and you’ve got a destination that keeps both parents and kids smiling from day one.

We’ve stayed at a few places over the years, but our two top picks are Grand Wailea in Maui and Aulani, A Disney Resort on Oahu. Both offer the kind of hospitality that makes traveling with kids feel less like a challenge and more like a treat. Pools, beach access, waterslides, kids’ clubs—it’s all there, and it’s done well.

Some of our favorite moments have come from simple experiences: snorkeling close to shore, spotting sea turtles sunning themselves, and walking the beach as the sky turns pink at sunset. But Hawaii’s also packed with things to do when you want to add adventure into the mix. We’ve tried surfing lessons, gone ziplining through the treetops, explored rugged state parks, and even swam alongside dolphins on a guided tour.

Of course, no trip to the islands is complete without attending a luau. The music, fire dancers, and traditional Hawaiian food combine into a night your kids will talk about long after you’ve unpacked your suitcases.

Whether you choose Maui, Oahu, or hop between a few islands, Hawaii delivers on both relaxation and adventure—without needing much effort to plan or enjoy. It’s the kind of place where time slows down, and family memories pile up fast.

    12. Tempe & Phoenix, Arizona

    Tempe and phoenix, Arizona

Arizona might not be the first place that comes to mind for a kid-friendly getaway—but it should be. Every time we visit the Tempe and Phoenix area, we leave wondering why we don’t go more often. The weather is reliably sunny, the resorts know how to keep families entertained, and there’s a surprising variety of things to do.

Some of the hotels here seem like they were built with kids as the priority. Think sprawling pools, wave simulators, and in some cases, full-blown water parks right on site. The Arizona Grand Resort in Phoenix, for example, features its own private oasis with slides, a lazy river, and a splash zone. The Westin Kierland in Scottsdale is another favorite of ours—it’s got a great balance of comfort for adults and fun for the little ones.

Outside the hotel, the area delivers even more. Animal lovers can go horseback riding in the desert, while sports fans are spoiled with options—football, baseball, basketball, and hockey all have a strong presence here. If you visit in the spring, don’t miss the Cactus League’s spring training. With over 20 small stadiums hosting MLB teams, it feels more personal and relaxed than big league games, and the players are often more accessible too.

Between desert landscapes, exciting sports, and over-the-top resort fun, Tempe and Phoenix offer a blend of outdoor adventure and laid-back leisure that works surprisingly well for families. It’s a place where you can go from hiking a scenic trail in the morning to floating down a lazy river by afternoon.

    13. Chattanooga, Tennessee

    Chattanooga, Tennessee
    Chattanooga, Tennessee | David Sager/Unsplash

Chattanooga turned out to be one of those places that quietly sneaks up on you—in the best way. It’s incredibly manageable for families, with most of the attractions close together, which means less time driving and more time actually enjoying the trip. And when you’re traveling with kids, that kind of convenience makes a big difference.

We kicked things off with indoor rock climbing, which gave the kids a safe space to burn off energy and try something new. The Tennessee Aquarium was next—and it didn’t disappoint. With both a river and ocean building, it felt like two completely different experiences in one stop. The jellyfish exhibit was a favorite, and the butterfly garden added a calm moment between tanks full of toothy creatures.

One of the biggest surprises was Ruby Falls. This underground waterfall is located deep inside Lookout Mountain, and the tour through the cave to reach it was just as exciting as the waterfall itself. The lighting and sound effects gave it a kind of magical feel without going overboard.

We stayed at The Read House, a hotel that leans into its 1920s aesthetic with dark wood, chandeliers, and Gatsby-era flair. The kids thought it felt like stepping into a movie set, and it definitely added something extra to the trip.

If you’re looking for a mix of outdoor fun, educational stops, and a touch of vintage character, Chattanooga checks all the boxes—without feeling overcrowded or too commercial.

    14. Knoxville, Tennessee

    Knoxville, Tennessee
    Knoxville, Tennessee | Robin Canfield/Unsplash

Knoxville totally caught us off guard—in the best way. Just a short 90-minute drive from Chattanooga, it ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. The mix of outdoor fun, local flavor, and easygoing atmosphere made it a great choice for families looking to do more than just hit the usual tourist spots.

One of the biggest hits with our kids was an adventure ropes course that offered zip lines, climbing features, and plenty of challenges for every age level. It was active, engaging, and gave us all a bit of a confidence boost. Afterward, we headed to Market Square, which is packed with casual dining options and a fun, walkable setup—perfect for winding down without feeling rushed.

If you’re in town during football season, don’t miss the chance to catch a University of Tennessee game. The energy is high, the fans are loud, and it’s an experience that gives kids a glimpse into real southern sports culture. And if Dollywood is on your radar, it’s only a half-hour drive away. We found it easier (and quieter) to stay in Knoxville and just make the trip over for the day.

For lodging, we stayed at THE TENNESSEAN, and it really worked well for our crew. The double king room—with two showers—was a total time-saver when we were getting everyone ready in the morning. Those extra touches make a big difference when you’re traveling with a family.

Knoxville doesn’t try too hard—it just delivers. It’s easy to get around, filled with activities that keep everyone entertained, and offers a nice break from the pace of bigger cities while still giving you plenty to do.

    15. Park City, Utah

    Park City, Utah

Park City has slowly climbed its way to the top of our family travel list—and for good reason. It’s one of those rare destinations that truly holds up year-round. Whether you’re chasing snow or sunshine, there’s always something happening, and plenty of it is geared toward families.

We’ve made trips in both summer and winter, and each season offers its own kind of thrill. During the warmer months, the kids loved paddleboarding on nearby lakes, hiking along scenic trails, and—our favorite—tubing down an actual Olympic ski jump. There’s also bobsledding for the brave and a mountain coaster that winds through the trees. You won’t hear the words “I’m bored” once.

Once the snow rolls in, Park City transforms completely. The skiing and snowboarding are top notch, of course, but what really stood out to us were all the off-the-slope options. Snowshoeing, fat tire biking, sledding—they’re all part of the fun, and they gave us plenty of ways to enjoy the outdoors beyond just the ski lifts.

For lodging, we’re big fans of staying in Deer Valley, just a half-mile from Park City itself. The area is a little quieter but still close enough to access everything easily. Silver Baron Lodge has been perfect when we’ve traveled with extended family—it’s spacious, comfortable, and great for groups. And if you’re up for a splurge, the Stein Eriksen Lodge offers a next-level stay with top-tier service and stunning views.

Park City knows how to balance adventure and ease. It doesn’t matter what time of year you visit—there’s always something new to try, and enough variety that every member of the family finds their groove.

Best Places to Travel With Kids- Cruises

    16. Multi-Generational Cruise with Royal Caribbean

    Multi-Generational Cruise with Royal Caribbean
    Multi-Generational Cruise with Royal Caribbean | royalcaribbean/IG

While a cruise isn’t a traditional “destination,” leaving it off this list wouldn’t feel right. For any family planning a trip with grandparents, cousins, toddlers, teens, and everyone in between—a cruise might just be the perfect fit. We’ve taken several over the years, but the one that truly stood out was our Thanksgiving cruise aboard Royal Caribbean’s Harmony of the Seas. With 20 of us ranging in age from 3 to 75, it was the ideal way to travel as a group without the usual stress of coordinating every meal or activity.

One of the biggest perks? Everything is planned in advance. Meals, shows, childcare options, shore excursions—it’s all set before you even board. That means less time figuring things out on the fly and more time actually enjoying each other’s company.

The ship itself was jaw-dropping. Waterslides that twist off the back of the ship, twin FlowRider surf simulators, a zipline stretched across the open decks, mini golf, an ice skating rink, and even a classic carousel kept the kids (and adults) entertained nonstop. There were moments we had to remind ourselves there were actual ports to visit, because we could’ve happily stayed onboard the entire time.

Still, the stops were definitely worth it. We explored Royal Caribbean’s private beach in Haiti, took an unforgettable jungle excursion with Chukka Adventures in Jamaica, and lounged at Mr. Sanchos Beach Club in Cozumel—complete with endless guacamole and hammocks under the palm trees.

Cruising makes it incredibly easy to bring a large, diverse group together without sacrificing anyone’s idea of a good time. Whether you’re looking for high-energy fun, quiet relaxation, or simply a way to keep everyone in one place, a multi-generational cruise offers a travel setup that really works.

    17. Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) – Family Travel Favorite

    Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL)
Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) | Reinhard Link/Flickr

No, it’s not a single location—but cruising has become such a core part of our travel memories that leaving this off the list wouldn’t feel right. In fact, it’s one of the few vacation styles that ticks almost every box for our family: easy planning, non-stop activities, built-in childcare, and the chance to visit multiple places without repacking a single suitcase.

This NCL cruise was a standout. From the moment we stepped onboard, the kids were all-in thanks to the splash zones, waterslides, and daily events. The toddler playroom offered a great space for our littlest to explore safely, while the older kids headed straight for the climbing walls, sports courts, and poolside games. There’s something really comforting about knowing your kids are happily entertained without needing to hop from one attraction to the next.

As a parent, I can’t overstate the joy of not having to make decisions every night about where to eat—or worry about finding places that suit everyone’s taste. The dining options on board were diverse enough that even our pickiest eater left the table satisfied. And thanks to the kids’ club (free for ages 3 and up), we even carved out a few quiet dinners for just the adults—something we rarely get to enjoy during our usual family vacations.

Our itinerary made things even better. We explored beaches in Honduras, wandered through colorful towns in Belize, and visited Maya Park in Costa Maya—a newly built water park that was a total hit. In Cozumel, we took a fantastic food tour with Cozumel Chef, sampling local flavors we still talk about months later.

Cruising with NCL delivered exactly what we needed: a balance of adventure, convenience, and time to actually enjoy being together. It wasn’t just a trip—it was a chance to unplug, relax, and let the days unfold with ease.

    18. SLS Playa Mujeres – Cancun, Mexico

    SLS Playa Mujeres
    SLS Playa Mujeres | tatyanas_vacations_tours/IG

Just outside Cancun, in a private gated community, SLS Playa Mujeres offers a getaway that feels both upscale and relaxed. What makes it stand out isn’t only the stunning location or the amenities – it’s the way the resort blends family-friendly comforts with the kind of vacation atmosphere adults truly enjoy.

One of the best perks for parents? Kids 12 and under stay free, which helps stretch the budget without sacrificing comfort. From the moment you arrive, it’s clear the resort is built with all age groups in mind. The kids’ and teen clubs go beyond the usual crafts and cartoons. Think hands-on cooking classes with a local flair, and even beginner photography sessions that get your kids seeing the world a little differently.

Accommodations are flexible, which makes group travel easier to manage. Whether you’re bringing just the kids or a full extended family crew, you’ll find room configurations that work—some even with swim-out access, which quickly became the highlight of our mornings and evenings.

The food options also deserve a mention. With multiple restaurants offering everything from casual bites to more elevated dishes, no one goes hungry (or has to eat the same thing twice). There’s a thoughtful variety of flavors and dietary-friendly choices, so you’re never stuck hunting for alternatives.

SLS Playa Mujeres manages to give you a full resort experience—pools, spa access, activities—all while keeping things simple and fun for families. It’s the kind of place where both kids and adults get what they want out of the trip, and where planning feels less like a task and more like part of the enjoyment.

    19. Atlantis, Paradise Island – Bahamas

    Atlantis, Paradise Island – Bahamas
    Atlantis, Paradise Island – Bahamas | atlantisparadisefanbase/IG

Atlantis isn’t just a resort—it’s practically its own universe. Recognized with a 2025 Family Travel Award, this destination delivers a mix of pulse-pounding adventure and laid-back beach time, making it a hit with both kids and adults.

The waterpark alone is enough to keep your crew entertained for days. With towering slides (including one that shoots you through a replica of a Mayan temple), lazy rivers, and kid-friendly splash zones, it’s a non-stop rush. If you’re traveling with thrill-seekers, this place absolutely delivers. But if your little ones are on the younger side, the shallow, calm beaches on the far end of the resort offer a more relaxed alternative. The soft sand and gentle waves make it easy for toddlers and preschoolers to enjoy the ocean without being overwhelmed.

Beyond the water fun, Atlantis offers hands-on animal experiences that create real “wow” moments. From feeding stingrays to walking alongside dolphins, there are plenty of ways to connect with wildlife in safe, controlled environments.

The resort also does a great job balancing family time with opportunities for adults to recharge. Supervised clubs for all age levels—from kindergarteners to teens—are run with care and creativity. This gives parents a chance to explore other parts of the property, like the casino, spa, or one of the many restaurants offering more elevated dining.

During our visit, two standout meals were at Silan and Bimini Road. Both restaurants delivered in flavor and atmosphere, and even the pickier eaters at our table found something to enjoy.

Atlantis is big, busy, and packed with things to do—but somehow still manages to offer space to relax. Whether you’re racing down a waterslide or watching the sun dip below the horizon from the beach, this resort knows how to keep families happy without making anyone feel rushed or crowded.

    20.  Los Angeles, California

Teens and tweens might roll their eyes at a lot of things — but a trip to L.A. usually isn’t one of them. Mention a stop at In-N-Out Burger and they’ll be on board (bonus points if you casually drop that it’s already on your list). From there, the city offers a mix of tech, pop culture, and outdoor fun that hits just the right balance for the whole family.

Start with the Griffith Observatory, where space lovers can dive into interactive exhibits and soak in an unforgettable view of the Hollywood sign. You can walk downhill from there for an energetic detour to the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the iconic handprints at TCL Chinese Theatres — a route that blends sightseeing with a dose of light adventure.

Nearby, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures welcomes kids 17 and under for free. It’s a quick hop from the bubbling La Brea Tar Pits and LACMA, a contemporary museum known for its giant outdoor installations. For downtime, try The Grove for al fresco shopping, or head west to Santa Monica for a classic beach day and a ride on the famous pier wheel.

And of course, there’s Universal Studios Hollywood. Right now, it’s the only place in the U.S. where you can step into Super Nintendo World — a high-energy stop packed with immersive games and character-themed attractions that’ll win over even the most hard-to-please gamer.

For a convenient home base, the Kimpton Everly Hotel Hollywood delivers reliable comfort, a rooftop pool, and front-row access to city sights. “We even had a view of the Hollywood sign from our room,” noted a recent visitor from Good Housekeeping.

This isn’t just another city trip. It’s a memorable mash-up of pop culture, science, film history, and SoCal sunshine — all wrapped into one family-friendly itinerary.

    21. Monterey, California

If there’s one thing that puts Monterey on the family travel radar, it’s the world-famous Monterey Bay Aquarium. But this isn’t your average glass-tank experience. Here, kids can crawl through tunnels beneath swirling tropical fish and play with squirt cannons that simulate ocean waves — all while learning something along the way. There’s even a soft play zone built specifically for toddlers, complete with low-level exhibits so the tiniest visitors don’t miss a thing.

The real showstopper, though, is Into the Deep, an ongoing exhibition that dives into the barely-explored corners of the ocean. It’s not every day you get to see creatures so new to science they haven’t even been named. It’s educational, sure — but also genuinely thrilling for adults and kids alike.

Beyond the aquarium, Monterey offers simple pleasures: a walk along Cannery Row, spotting sea otters from the shore, or enjoying clam chowder with a Pacific breeze. The overall pace here gives your family room to breathe — whether that means pedaling bikes along the coastal trail or grabbing a cone near the old wharf.

Stay next door to the aquarium for maximum convenience. No car needed, no tantrums during travel — just roll out of bed and into a jellyfish tunnel. For many families, that proximity alone makes the trip worthwhile.

In Monterey, education and entertainment come hand in hand — with no need to over-plan. It’s a place where young minds are sparked, and grown-ups get a breather without giving up great food, views, or comfort.
